Frequently Asked Questions

Start Your smile Journey
Children should have their first dental visit by their first birthday or within six months of their first tooth erupting. Early visits help prevent tooth decay and get your child comfortable with the dentist. At A Plus Dentistry, we provide gentle, kid-friendly dental care to ensure your child’s smile stays healthy from the start.

Yes! Routine dental cleanings are safe and highly recommended during pregnancy. Hormonal changes increase the risk of pregnancy gingivitis, which can lead to gum inflammation and sensitivity. Maintaining oral health during pregnancy can also reduce the risk of complications, such as low birth weight or preterm labor. Be sure to inform your dentist if you are pregnant so they can tailor your care accordingly.
Absolutely! Braces and Invisalign require extra care to prevent plaque buildup, cavities, and gum disease. During orthodontic treatment, regular dental checkups help:

- Monitor oral health and ensure teeth are shifting properly.
- Remove plaque and tartar buildup around brackets or aligners.
- Address any discomfort or concerns related to treatment.

Your dentist may recommend more frequent cleanings to keep your teeth and gums healthy during treatment.

The American Dental Association recommends visiting the dentist at least twice a year for routine checkups and professional cleanings. Regular visits help prevent common dental issues like cavities, gum disease, and plaque buildup. However, if you have specific dental concerns, such as gum disease, braces, or frequent tooth sensitivity, your dentist may suggest more frequent visits to maintain optimal oral health.
If you’re looking to brighten your smile, professional teeth whitening is the safest and most effective option. In-office whitening treatments use high-concentration bleaching agents to remove deep stains and lighten teeth by several shades in just one session. Unlike over-the-counter whitening strips, professional treatments provide long-lasting and even results.
Dental emergencies, such as severe tooth pain, knocked-out teeth, broken crowns, or abscesses, require immediate attention. If you experience sudden dental pain or trauma:

- Rinse your mouth with warm water.
- Apply a cold compress to reduce swelling.
- If a tooth is knocked out, try placing it back in its socket or store it in milk.
- Call A Plus Dentistry right away for emergency dental care. Prompt treatment can save your tooth and prevent further complications.
Preventing cavities and gum disease starts with good oral hygiene habits:

- Brush your teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste.
- Floss daily to remove plaque from between your teeth.
- Use an antimicrobial mouthwash to kill bacteria.
- Visit your dentist every six months for a professional cleaning.
- Consider fluoride treatments or dental sealants for extra protection against decay.

A healthy diet low in sugar and acidic foods can also help maintain strong enamel and prevent gum disease.
A thorough examination which includes a medical and dental history check. A discussion of dental goals or chief concerns, an assessment of the jaw joint, the muscles, the tissues and the teeth and an oral cancer check. If necessary, we will also evaluate gums and chart your periodontal condition. We will always take needed digital x-rays and possibly photos if required for treatment planning.

All this will result in a comprehensive treatment plan and discussion based on the information acquired above. Finally, if scheduled with one of our hygienists your teeth will also be expertly cleaned.

All your financial question regarding insurances or costs for treatment can be discussed with our administrative staff following your visit.
We realize that you never expect a "dental emergency." We understand the nature of such problems and will do our very best to see you as soon as our schedule will allow. We always have regularly scheduled appointments which means we are fitting you in for treatment. If we ask you to come in right away or at specific times to treat your "emergency" we expect you to accept one of those times. An emergency means urgent care. Please respect that definition and help us treat you as soon as we are able. As a patient please be flexible with emergency scheduling.

We accept most major dental insurances and will work with you and on your behalf to make sure that your benefits are paid for any and all completed procedures in a timely and correct manner. However, ultimately the patient is responsible for all the fees incurred for dental services rendered at our office.
We know life can get in the way sometimes, however, we require 48 hour notice for cancellation of appointments. This is not punitive in nature - it simply covers some of the costs associated with running an empty office. Thank you for your understanding.
